Forward Steps: Climb Kilimanjaro, Elevate Scholars Campaign

At Transcend Ideas, we had the privilege of collaborating with Forward Steps, a nonprofit organization based in Boulder, CO, that supports youth who have experienced foster care as they work toward completing their postsecondary education. Our partnership centered around a unique fundraising campaign: Climb Kilimanjaro, Elevate Scholars.

This inspiring initiative was spearheaded by Forward Steps’ Executive Director, Jennifer Falkoski, who trained and climbed to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest peak, to raise funds and awareness for the Guardian Scholars Program. This program provides the resources and community support that foster youth need to overcome barriers in higher education.

To amplify the campaign’s impact, Transcend Ideas crafted a multi-faceted strategy to tell the story of Jennifer’s journey and the critical mission behind it. Our work included:

  • (Video) ‘Training Diaries’: We edited Reels on Instagram of behind-the-scenes footage of Jennifer’s training, showcasing her dedication.
  • Educational Content: Data and insights about the challenges youth in foster care face in pursuing education.
  • Scholar Stories: Highlighting the experiences of current and former Guardian Scholars.
  • Custom Brochure: Print designed to engage potential donors and sponsors.
  • Email Newsletters: Bringing supporters along for the climb with real-time updates and storytelling.
  • Custom Landing Page: A dedicated webpage to provide donors and sponsors with a clear understanding of the campaign and how to support it.
  • Timely Blog Updates: Regularly updated blog posts that mirrored and reinforced the narrative of the campaign.
  • Gala Integration: Creating a cohesive narrative for the Annual Gala, which featured a mountain theme and celebrated the scholars’ achievements.

The campaign culminated in raising over $77,000 for Forward Steps, ensuring the Guardian Scholars Program can continue to elevate youth to new heights—just as Jennifer reached the summit of Kilimanjaro.

JH Nordic Annual Event 2024 Case Study

Transcend Ideas is proud to continue our partnership with JH Nordic. We are proud to support their mission to improve winter trails access, education, and stewardship in the Teton. The Jackson Hole Nordic Alliance Annual Free Ski, Snowshoe, and Fat Bike Day event has become a favorite tradition for families and the community to come together to celebrate winter recreation in the Tetons. We are proud to have provided the illustration and marketing for the 2024 event this year.

JH Nordic Annual Free Ski, Snowshoe, Fatbike Day at Turpin Meadow Ranch

Transcend Ideas was proud to support the goal to provide education and increase awareness and community around winter trails use in the Tetons for visitors and locals alike.

  • Our team generated an illustrated vintage-style poster reminiscent of skiing and days spent on winter trails from the past. This appeals emotionally to viewers of both the physical and digital marketing campaigns.
  • Digital graphics were created for social media as a 10 day countdown to increase excitement and engagement online. A consistent digital presence promoting attendance at the 6th Annual Free Ski, Snowshoe, and Fatbike Day supported the success of the event.

Jackson Hole Nordic Alliance Case Study

Jackson Hole Nordic Alliance has worked with Heather for many years. Heather has helped JH Nordic develop a strategy for the website, marketing messaging, graphic design, marketing strategy, and more. JH Nordic is a non-profit organization and a community-oriented resource designed to identify, map, describe, and share all the best trail information in the region. The amount of work is staggering that goes into preparing up-to-date trail information on the extraordinary Nordic skiing opportunities around us. JH Nordic, also, provides information on fat biking and snowshoeing in the Jackson Hole/ Teton Valley/Greater Teton region of Wyoming and Idaho.

JH Nordic hosts an Annual Community Event at Turpin Meadow Ranch. This year the event is going to be extraordinary. The event has been canceled two years in a row because of the COVID pandemic. On Sunday, January 8th, 2023 the event will be on! The event is family-friendly and brings people together who love Nordic skiing, fat biking, and snowshoeing.

Community powered in a Shared Love

What makes JH Nordic so intriguing is the community that supports and feeds it with experience and enthusiasm! Our small town’s shared love and camaraderie of outdoor recreation is potent. Case Study: Erin Taylor Coaching

Erin Taylor came to Transcend Ideas for a website to help market her wellness and intuitive leadership coaching practice. It was a pleasure to help Erin find her voice, her focus, and lead the approach of her site design.

“Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”

— Victor Frankl

Erin Taylor Coaching offerings are:

Life balance, mindfulness in the workplace, wellbeing, and intuitive leadership. She offers keystone speaking, individual coaching, and group training. Erin loves to reference Victor Frankl in how she shows up in her coaching, helping her clients discover the space between.

Often it’s the simple things that make a big difference:

  • Icon sets can help break up content and help the visitor organize content
  • Utilize bullet points so it’s easier for them to scan your content
  • Using subtle geometric parallax backgrounds, it helps break up the sterile white background
  • Seeing her face in her portrait(s) throughout the site is important for her potential clients to see who they will be working with
  • Humanize herself by sharing more about her journey and her “why”

The clarity, the simplicity, and relatability of Erin will help rope in clients into her coaching practice.

Carving the Future | Case Study

Carving the Future logo design image

Carving the Future is a non-profit that’s mission is to empower youth through snowboarding and skateboarding. They were looking for a brand identity package to convey “cool” and “confident”. The logo variations include designs that can be applied to hoodies, stickers, and banners.

The snowboarder and skateboarder were both previously illustrated by Amy Dowell, a local artist. Amy vectorized the icons to utilize in the logo variations for Carving the Future.

The use of turquoise blue and deep navy blue lend to the identity package goals of a “cool” vibe for youth interested in snowboarding and skateboarding. The cool colors, also, coincide with winter sports and associated apparel/accessories.

Nikki Foster for Congress | Case Study

Nikki Foster ran for Congress in Ohio District 1 in 2020 and needed a branding identity for her campaign. Her long career in the Air Force as a pilot helped inspire the creative direction of her campaign brand.

The color blue was the main color because she was running on a Democratic ticket coupled with red accents. The stacked icons of the red circle inlaid in a white triangle brought a patriotic feel to the design. All of these icons residing within the blue ‘O’ shape make for a clean first impression.

Both a primarily text-based logo design and a logo design that was centered in a circle shape were used for this campaign. Nikki and her campaign team needed these logos to put on all materials for fundraising and public speaking events around District 1 in Ohio, where she was running for a Congressional seat.

We would vote for Nikki Foster for Congress any day!

Case Study: Wyoming Coalition for Animal Protection

Wyoming Coalition for Animal Protection - Wycap logo image

The Wyoming Coalition for Animal Protection (WYCAP) was looking for a logo design that helped represent their non-profit organization. WYCAP advocates for the species that cannot speak for themselves.

Final Concept Logo Design

Although there was debate on what species to include we did come to a compromise on which animals were represented from domestic, farm and native wildlife. The concept landed on a triangle shape to help represent the trifecta, or the categories of creatures they devote their advocacy to protect.

Color Palette

The logo uses a mid-tone blue and deep navy blue along with a golden yellow for the final concept. That lends the end user to feeling trust toward the organization. Golden yellow elicits feelings of a faithful, stable, and organized non-profit. The colors together bring in a strong combination that remains dedicated to protecting animals. The sense of calm and assurance you get from the use of colors aligns with the organization advocating for animals and others respecting rules and authority to reach their goals of preventing exploitation of all wildlife.
